The beauty of this wedding is that even if you’re not close to a beach, you can easily replicate this romantic wedding through the use of imagination. Let your guests know that they are coming to an island, to munch on coconut andpineapple and sip on champagne as you and your fiancé say your I do’s!

SURFIN' out the spot

Obviously, one of the best places to hold the Seashore Shindig wedding would be on a beach!  A beach setting would give you the ultimate site for your reception.

But if you are not blessed with crystal blue water and sand blowing near your hometown; here are a few other suggestions that you might consider:

  • A Wave Pool Recreational Center or Local Community Pool

  • A Yacht, Ship or a Historical Battleship

  • A Pier/Seafood Restaurant

  • An Aquarium

  • A Lighthouse

  • A Public Garden or Park

DECKING out the place

  • Place sand on the table and etch words on each table such as “love”, “forever”etc.. You could also scatter a variety of seashells on the sand to create a beacheffect.

 

  • Use silver bucket tins or decorative beach pails (like the one shown - you can find them in a variety of colors to match your wedding scheme) for your centerpieces. Get your florist to place flowers in them or put children’s sand toys inside of the buckets.

 

  • Fill up children’s sandboxes to place throughout the reception area. Place umbrellas, sun tan lotion, beach blankets etc in them. Let your imagination ofthe beach guide you!

  • Light up the area with tiki torches.

  • Chill champagne or beer in sand pails on each table.

  • For a unique centerpiece, fill a small fishbowl with sand, seashells and starfishes.You could also put real goldfish in the bowls - just make sure you know what you will do with the goldfishes after. Talk to your local pet store and see if they would be willing to let the goldfish go on a bit of a “vacation” for a day.

 

  • Use beach towels! Hang a variety of beach towels throughout the reception areaor use them as table runners on the tables. You could borrow these from friends,even better ask your guests to bring their beach towels along with them to thereception. You are sure to end up with a mix match of colors running throughoutyour reception! Which is exactly what happens on the beach.

 

  • Get surfin’! Use surfboards as platters - you could place your favors on thesurfboards or even put appetizers on them!

 

  • Use picnic umbrellas on the tables. If you are having your reception outside,these will be great for your guests trying to escape the heat and plus they add a“beachy” look to your reception.

 

  • Let your guests know they are required to dress “hawear” meaning Hawaiianshirts for men and form-fitting muumuus for ladies.

  • Place grass skirting around the table to hide the legs of the tables.

  • Have the groomsman were starfish boutonniere’s instead of the traditional flower.

The “Surf and Turf ” has always been perceived as a decadent indulgence. It is the combinationof two expensive ingredients, steak and lobster. If your budget allows you to combine thesetwo then your guests will be in culinary heaven. However, “Surf and Turf ” is really thecombination of meats and seafood. Use your imagination! There are a variety of different combinations you could use such as prime rib and king crab legs (or mussels) or chicken and garlic scampi.

Blow Your Conch!

  • The conch shell is blown at all four corners of the compass asa call to friends and family to join in the celebration. Use the conch throughout your wedding such as to begin your ceremony or to signal the first dance.

Dolphin Games

  • Try unique games to get your guests into the spirit such as blow-up Dolphin races or beach volleyball games.

Popsicles

  • Forget glasses of champagne! Let your guests cool down with homemade popsicle’s made out of pink champagne.

Crack Open the Coconuts

  • Have your guests participate in a coconut toss for you to kiss. Let people throw a coconut into a designate ring, if they get the coconut into the ring, then you kiss.  Alternatively, if they miss the ring, they have to kiss someone. Or vice versa depending on your crowd, many people might enjoy getting the kiss over you.

Hula Dancing

  • Hula dancing as been a Hawaiian custom for centuries. Traditionally, the bridedoes a hula for her husband at their wedding. What a perfect opportunity to stay fitand learn a new art at the same time? Look around your area to see if you can find any classes for hula dancing. Alternatively, you could always book authentic hula dancers for your wedding.

Grand Entrance

  • If you are getting married near a dock, make a grand entrance! Instead of walking down the aisle, cruise in on a powerboat, sail in and/or walk down the dock!

Hand Ceremony 

  • Perform a hiuwai ceremony! It is a ritual cleansing before the wedding. Before sunrise, walk into the ocean (or the closestwater form you have) with your groom, hands clasped together and at daylight emerge from the water. The idea is to rinseaway your past.

YACHT'S of thanks

Give your guests yacht's of thanks for coming to celebrate your love with some of these ideas:

  • Buy some pretty bottles and fill it up with sand. You could also add coloring to the sand to create different layers of sand.

 

  • Give out lei’s to your guests as they arrive! Traditionally, couples exchange leis at the beginning of the wedding.

 

  • Give away little sailboats with your names and date of your wedding painted on them. If you or none of your friends have any painting skills, tie aribbon on the boats with a thank you note.

 

  • Give out instructions on how to make a sandcastle tied around a plastic kids beach shovel. Be creative on how you make the instructions such asmold the sand with love and make the windows open for all etc. Tell your guests you can’t wait to meet them on the beach in the near future for a sandcastle contest.

  • Not into the deep dark depths of the ocean. What about just getting alittle wet. Is there some secluded area you can find for the two of you tohave a late-night rendevous swim. And don’t worry if you forget yourbathing suit.

 

  • Looking to add more to your home together? Get some kissing fish!The soothing sounds of an aquarium and the tranquility of the tank willgive some peace to some stressful days. Pick out the aquarium, decorand fish together. Just remember, someone has to be in charge offeeding and cleaning the tank!

FLOATING into your soul

The ocean is full of ideas and inspiration that can help you design your wedding. Here are a few suggestions to get your mind floating into the spirit:

 

  • Use some of these words to spark your own creativeness. Think about: hammocks, breezes, waterfalls, snorkeling, bleached white sand, floating resort, south sea paradises, marina etc.

 

  • Go to your local aquarium or to a fish store. Look at the beautifulsaltwater fish and their surroundings. Write down what you see and how you feel.

 

  • Go to your local library and search out travel magazines of Hawaii andFlorida. Stare at the images and place yourself in the picture. What caughtyour eye first? How does it make you feel? Write down these feelings and see if you can incorporate your favorites into your wedding.
