You and Him, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes girl pushing a baby carriage! No oneforgets the first time they are busted with a crush. Do you remember your first glimpse of love, the fluttering of your stomach, thewait until your lips meet for that first kiss and then quickly darting off to tell your girlfriend?

It is Young Love.

A child’s innocent look into the world of love.If you are known as young at heart and thesimple essence of a kiss on the cheek still makes your stomach turn than this is your wedding!

HUMPTY DUMPTY found the perfect spot

An ideal place to hold the First Love Wedding would be a local fairground. Put up a big tent, let your guests ride the merry-go around - a child’s dream day! If you don’t have a fairground in your area, tons ofother places would work fantastic like a local zoo or a park.

Of course, any other type of venue of your choice would workwonderfully. Some venue selections might be:

  • Your Home or Friend's

  • A Community Hall

  • A Hotel

  • A University or College Area

  • A Bed & Breakfast

ONE, TWO BUCKLE MY SHOE, three, four, let's decorate

  • If you have a favorite illustrator of artwork such as Kim Anderson(portraits of kids - black & white photos - and then hand painted with tintsof reds), Anne Geddes (babies dressed up as teddy bears etc.), or PreciousMoments, you can easily add any of these special touches to yourwedding. Many wedding shops offer items such as guest books, cuttingknives, unity candles, toasting glasses etc.

  • However, you can also easily create your own elements. For example, fillthe venue with pictures of your favorite artist. Many of these artists artwork can be found on greeting cards - you can easily cut the picture out, place in small frames anduse them as centerpieces (place candles also with them). You could alsobuy larger pictures, frame them and hang these throughout the venue.

  • For your wedding colors, think of romantic combinations such as redand white, pastel blue and silver, pale pinks or go for an all white or allred look.

  • Fill your venue with balloons - and tons of them! Balloons are budgetconscious and will add a fantastic decoration for your First Lovewedding. Keep the colors to your wedding scheme such as if yourcolors are blue and silver - use only blue and silver balloons throughout the reception.

  • Let your snacks serve as your centerpieces! Fill bowls with funmunchies such as flavored gourmet popcorn, spiced nuts etc. Anothergreat idea, would be to fill silver dishes with silver lined Hershey kissesor use a gold container and use gold lined Hershey kisses.

  • Have a photo show! Set up a photo projector and have a slide showplaying of you and your mate as kids, your parents, his parents, friends -anyone really just have all the pictures of people as children.

  • Decorate the ceiling (or if you have a gazebo) with mobiles - selecthearts, sparkles, snowflakes or crystals and hang them in straight linesfrom the roof for a unique attractive twist.

  • Decorate a clothes line with childhood outfits. This would also serveas a great photo opportunity for wedding pictures. You could get married under it - or put it up near your guest table and get pictures of all your guests under it as they enter the reception.

PAT-A-CAKE, let's bake a cake

Okay, let’s face it - what meal do all kids and those young at heart run to the dinner table for? DESSERT! Any baker’s man can tell you that!

A twinkle in every child’s eye beams when you mention the word treats so give yourguests what they want. Consider throwing a spectacular, decadent desert reception.  This type of meal is best served for an early afternoon wedding or a late night wedding. It should be handled like a cocktail reception with the party only lastingabout 90 minutes, if that’s too short of a time, make sure you have tables availablefor your guests to sit down.

LITTLE MISS MUFFET's tips & traditions

Lights!  Camera!  Action!

  • Get creative with your photos! The First Love Wedding is aboutboundless energy so let your pictures remind you of your fantastic day. Getphotos of you jumping into the air, running towards the church. Ask your photographer who is sure to have a multitude of unique ideas for action shots.  Another idea would be to have a Photo Booth at the venue for your guests to particiapte in pictures.  Your guests will love playing around in the booth!

Horse Drawn Carriage

  • Instead of arriving at the church in a limousine, play out every little girls fantasy and arrive in a horse and carriage.

Kisses

  • For your guests to get you to kiss, make them speak in rhyme. Let themtell you a story or a love quote. It doesn't really matter, just that they make itrhyme!

Picture Frames

  • Instead of using the traditional guest book - consider framing each other’sfirst piece of artwork. Your parents are sure to have one of thesemasterpieces in their treasure chests. Get the “artwork” framed with a large matte in white and have your guests sign the matte as they enter your reception. These two unique pictures will hang in your home for years to come. Alternatively, use the same idea and select one of your favorite illustrators (Kim Anderson, Anne Geedes etc.) for the artwork.

  • In the early 1900’s, it was common practice to have several flower girls. This is still quite common with the royal family. Pick several little girls to walk down the aisle before you - have them throw rose petals or even consider finding some wings to place on the back of their dresses so they can float down the aisle before you! If youdo plan on having children at your wedding, make sure you set up an area of entertainment for them. This will keep them happy and their parents also happy!

Blowing Bubbles

  • Let your guests blow bubbles! Give each guest (this could also serve asyour give-away) a little thing of bubbles and have them blow them after theceremony instead of throwing confetti or have them all blow them when youarrive at the reception. If you really like bubbles, consider getting a bubblemachine to give you continual bubbles through the dance.

PETER PIPER PICKED a present

Nothing gets a smile more than presenting anyone with a little gift! Let your guests know that you were happy that they came to celebrate your marriage.  Here are a few Young Love gift suggestions:

  • Send each of your guests home with an individual framed piece of yourfavorite illustrator if you are using this scheme in your wedding. If you aregoing to use these as your centerpieces, have enough at the table for each ofyour guests to take home. It will be a unique keepsake they can place intheir home.

  • Give your guests a sweet treat by sending them home with a CookieLover’s Kit. In an organza bag (or even a brown paper bag) include your favorite Cookie recipe with some of the main ingredient whether that bechocolate chips, caramel or toffee bits.

HEY, DIDDLE, DIDDLE the cat and the fiddle

A fiddler would be great entertainment for your guests! But, if you are just interested in getting your guests up on the dance floor - hire a DJ to play all nightlong! Get the DJ to play all those silly wedding songs like “The Chicken Dance”and “The YMCA” - everyone knows these tunes and what a great way to exhaust some of those energetic guests you are sure to have!

Songs to consider throughout the evening could include:

  • A Whole New World - Peabo Bryson & Regina Belle

  • One Boy, One Girl - Colin Raye

  • I Cross My Heart - George Strait

HUSH A bye baby

During your planning stages, you might notice that the wedding has seem totaken over most of your extra time and that includes some romantic time also! Find that inner child and explore it with your mate:

  • There’s nothing like seeing a little baby fall asleep. Try taking a nap inthe middle of the afternoon together. We sometimes forget how crazy things get and it’s nice just to lay down, relax and take a much needed rest together.

  • Consider doing crazy things to just spice things up, have thumb wars ondeciding who will do what house chores, create a secret handshake, see whocan make the silliest face and not laugh, tickle each other, throw cookedspaghetti noodles against the wall, play wastepaper basket baseball with that guest list. Remember all those things you did as a child and just do them together!

DIDDLE, DIDDLE DUMPLING into your spirit

You are sure to have your own First Love Wedding ideas but here are somesuggestions to spark your own creativity or just to put you into an child’s mood:

  • Go through magazines, tear out images and words that appeal to you.Arrange the cutouts on a piece of poster board and paste them down. Put itaway for a week and then go back to it. What stands out the most? What’syour impression? Can you take any of these ideas and incorporate theminto your wedding or into your life?

  • When was the last time you laughed till your sides hurt or you couldn’tbreathe? Can you remember what made you laugh that hard? Maybe it’s just a friend who makes you constantly laugh at yourself and themselves - maybe you can add some of this laughter to your wedding. One big thing, is to try torecall that laughter when you get stressed with your planning or even duringthe wedding. Remember to laugh!

  • Watch some Disney shows! Nothing brings out our childhoodmemories than good old Disney. Some of the newer ones also cleverlyappeal to adults. Try watching The Lion King, Spirit or Monsters!
